1. How do human factors and climatic extremes influence water fluxes, residence times, and storage across landscapes? Further, what are the potential implications of these changes in the water cycle mean for water security and food sustainability in the near future?
2. How do changing climate, management practices, land use history, and green infrastructures influence the transport and retention of nutrients (C, P) across spatiotemporal scales?
Collect spatiotemporally intensive field-based observation (hydrometric, nutrients, isotopic)
Leverage advanced statistical approaches (Bayesian estimation, causality, frequency modeling) and machine learning algorithms
Utilize big datasets from national and global networks and repositories
Integrate observations with process based hydrological, biogeochemical, and agent-based models
3. How can we integrate knowledge from across disciplines to assist local non-profits, and state and federal agencies in building more resilient environmental systems to extreme events and human alterations?
